CHANCE | CHANGE
6.75 x 8.75 inches
Using chance, any form of design was created using the unknown, but formed to our interests. This project involved the ideas of chance and how to achieve certain results with the idea of chance. Without human control and where disorder is sensed, the idea of chance is presented and the unpredictable can create something that we can process into a system for design action, insight, and visual result. In this assignment, we were to use a “chance operation” to create insight, design action, and produce a visual result. Because chance is the opposite of order, it is seen as something condemned. |

MATHEMATICA
Various sizes
The Mathematica stamp collection was designed based on the most basic forms of mathematics. In 1961, Charles and Ray Eames designed an exhibition called “Mathematica: A world of numbers... and beyond”. In this exhibition, the depth and curiosity of mathematics is explored and provides inspiration for those who go and visit it.
With the definition of mathematics in mind, the initial four stamps, a cancellation stamp, a “first day issue” commemorative package, and an instructional guide were to be designed to define, reflect, and celebrate mathematics. The stamp was to be considered as a unit as well as a part of an ongoing series and be harmonious between its form and content as well as related parts. |

PRO/PORTION
Various sizes
Using the root three rectangle, a design was to be created that communicated the idea of “proportion”. Proportion is described to be
a part, share, or number considered in comparative relation to a whole.
Initially working in teams, we created a folded form to gain insight into the nature of the proportion being worked with. After settling on a form,
a grid was created for the form so that the text could be applied to the form in the best manner possible.
Following the application of text, imagery was to be applied to deepen
the understanding of the text and form. The ultimate goal was to have
the user be able to realize the content just by interacting and experiencing the object itself. |
